communitychallenge

The communitychallenge programme is a series of powerful and inspiring team challenges that develop and motivate staff, provide much needed assistance to the developing world, and raise vital funds for charity.

Following the Asian tsunami in 2004, it became clear that companies wanted to help, not just by sending money to the worst affected areas, but by sending people. The communitychallenge programme was developed in response to this demand, to enable employees to get directly involved in making a hands-on contribution to communities most in need.

communitychallenge helps to address pressing global issues such as education, water, poverty housing, HIV/AIDS and climate change.

With an emphasis on health and safety, volunteers work under the guidance of both local and international professionals, allowing employees to focus on making a real difference. All that is needed is the energy, enthusiasm and desire to help.

Over 1,500 employee volunteers have taken part in our programme since its launch in 2005, raising more than £1.2m for international development organizations.

We have worked on 70 projects in 7 countries with companies including Reuters, HBOS, Saatchi and Saatchi, Diageo, Lloyds TSB, Schroders, IBM, Credit Suisse, GE, Freshfields, Serco and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

communitychallenge has been officially recognised for our efforts in the developing world, making a positive contribution to communities in desperate need. Highly commended in the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards 2007, in the category of Best Tour Operator for Poverty Reduction, we were commended for our work helping to raise in excess of one million pounds for Habitat for Humanity Great Britain through our house building communitychallenges in Sri Lanka, South Africa, China and India. The Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards, now in its fourth year, aims to recognise individuals, companies and organisations in the travel industry that are making a significant commitment to the culture and the economies of local communities.  Today, communitychallenge participants have helped to build more than 400 houses, in seven countries across three continents, helping those often living without access to running water, electricity or proper sanitation facilities.

URGENT Cambodia communitychallenge

Volunteers are urgently needed to help build a community centre near Siem Reap in Cambodia. You will be working with ActionAid alongside the local villagers who will benefit from the centre. The centre will be used by the community for healthcare, education and HIV / AIDS work. Sign up here for the challenge on 29th November to 8th December 2008.

"A week long experience that will last a lifetime" Ann Kennedy, ActionAid volunteer in 2007.
